Frequently asked questions
Which browsers support live transcription?
This tool uses the Web Speech Recognition API, which today works best in Chrome and Edge (desktop and Android). Safari and Firefox have limited or no support — if it isn’t available, the tool shows a message and disables the controls.
Why does it need an internet connection sometimes?
Some browsers (notably Chrome) send audio to an online speech service to turn it into text, so recognition may require a connection. Other engines run on-device. Either way, MyDailyKit never receives or stores your audio.
Can it transcribe a pre-recorded audio file?
No. The browser’s speech API listens to your live microphone, so this is a real-time dictation tool. To transcribe a file, play it aloud near your mic, though quality will vary.
Is my voice recorded or stored?
Not by us. The transcript is built locally in your browser and only the finalized text is kept in the box on your screen. Nothing is uploaded to or saved on MyDailyKit’s servers.
