Frequently asked questions

How does image compression work?
JPEG and WebP use lossy compression: they discard detail the eye is least likely to notice to make files dramatically smaller. Lowering the quality removes more detail and saves more space.
Will compressing reduce quality?
A little — that’s the trade-off. Around 0.8 quality usually looks identical to the original while cutting the file size a lot. Use the live preview and size readout to find the sweet spot.
Should I use JPEG or WebP?
WebP usually produces noticeably smaller files at the same quality and is supported by all modern browsers. Choose JPEG only if you need maximum compatibility with older software.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by anyone else.
