Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Recognition runs entirely in your browser using Tesseract.js. Your image is read and processed locally — it is never uploaded or stored anywhere.
Do I need an internet connection to use this?
The first time you run OCR, your browser downloads the recognition engine and language data it needs (a few megabytes), so you'll need an internet connection for that initial download. After that, recognition works offline until you clear your browser cache.
Why is the extracted text inaccurate?
OCR accuracy depends on image quality. Clear, high-contrast, well-lit, and horizontally-aligned text works best. Blurry photos, handwriting, or low-resolution screenshots can produce mistakes — try cropping tightly around the text or choosing a higher-resolution image.
Which languages are supported?
This tool ships with a handful of common languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, and Chinese (Simplified). Pick the one that matches your image before extracting for the best accuracy.
